Packaging in the Food Industry: Innovating Sustainability

Consumer Demand for Sustainable Choices Leads to Innovative Biodegradable Paper Packaging.

Sustainability is more important to consumers than it has ever been. In fact, according to new research from Asia Pulp & Paper Group (APP), 50 percent of consumers say sustainability of paper-based packaging is more important today than it was five years ago. And when it comes to food packaging specifically, biodegradable food packaging attributes are now viewed just as important as recyclability and overall sustainability.

So what does this mean for packaging in the food industry?

Within the food industry, many packaging items have a PE-coated liner that requires additional resources, energy and dedicated facilities to break down. This makes recycling a challenge and beckons the need for brands to offer alternative sustainable choices to consumers. Thanks to innovative technology, biodegradable packaging is one solution.

In this session, Ian Lifshitz, Vice President of Sustainability & Stakeholder Relations, the Americas for the Asia Pulp & Paper Group, will speak to the need for global brands to offer a greater variety of sustainable packaging choices, especially in the food industry, and how innovative biodegradable options are changing the food landscape.
